A well regulated militia

A well regulated militia? Sandy Hook
Gun Control: no such thing. Most people (especially my students) would probably call me a “liberal” or at least a liberal-leaning independent. If pushed into a corner and forced to wear a label, I support gun control. I support waiting periods, background checks, required firearm training for gun owners, increased tax and spending for mental health care, restrictions on gun show transfers, etc. …all the usual laundry list of policies. I also have some understanding of how powerful the NRA and other anti-gun control lobbying organizations are in Washington and throughout the nation. But here is the deal: none of these control measures can prevent the unauthorized easy transfer of weapons already in circulation. You can sell a gun to friend, you steal it from a home, you take it from a citizen with a conceal/carry permit or law enforcement officer. Or, you might buy a gun lawfully and then develop mental illness 10 years later. Most estimates suggest there are about 300 million guns in this country of about 350 million people. If we don’t sell another gun after today, the guns are already here. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do.
