Critical race feminism
This essay deals with a critical analysis of fetal protection laws and how they disproportionately affect black mothers. Roberts argues that these laws violate women’s right to privacy and right to motherhood, which the Constitution should guarantee. The essay deals with themes of intersectionality, the right to an abortion, and the constant struggle poor black women are facing from the law and society, and their expectations of being a mother without any assistance or help from the government. The essay is powerful, especially in her analysis of motherhood and the right of these women to choose, even if the odds are against them.
